What is
Rally for Tennis?

Founded in New England by Alek Karagozyan, Tait Oberg, and Cole Oberg in 2021, Rally for Tennis is a call for all junior tennis players to join the effort to promote tennis and make it accessible for all kids.

Organically developed and powered by volunteer junior tennis players, our mission is to help launch fun and innovative fundraising events to sponsor and highlight organizations that help underprivileged kids gain access to tennis and training. We leverage community, service and the love of tennis.

The first Rally for Tennis event was held in August 2021 at Nashua, NH, and raised over $12,000 for Advantage Kids - a nonprofit that combines tennis and social-emotional-learning to empower kids on and off the courts, giving them advantages that will lead to a lifetime of success.

Rally for Tennis is expanding in 2022 with a second annual event in Massachusetts as well as an inaugural event in New Jersey. The event is being led and organized by Josh Mandelbaum, Andrew Kotzen, Ayanna Varma and Ethan Polen.

On August 23, 2022, the inaugural Rally for Tennis New Jersey event will be held at West Orange Tennis Club (West Orange, NJ). The event will have a tennis clinic and a team-based fun doubles tournament, as well as prizes, food and drinks. There will also be a high-level tennis exhibition match for all the participants to see. All players (around ages 12 to 16) must register and pledge to solicit donations for Greater Newark Tennis & Education (minimum of $50 per player). 100% of all funds donated will go directly to Greater Newark Tennis & Education (GNTE). All expenses are covered by sponsorships. So, let's all RALLY to support GNTE!

What is
Greater Newark Tennis & Education?

Greater Newark Tennis & Education (GNTE) is a 501c-3 organization dedicated to providing tennis instruction in an innovative format– we get kids playing and engaged from their first moment on the court. Through our partnership with Seton Hall University, we offer a corresponding educational component, designed to foster whole child development.

Research shows a powerful connection between sports participation and academic success. Tennis provides foundational skills that extend far beyond the court: resilience, problem solving, mastery of a skill, teamwork, integrity, and self-reliance.

Our base program is free of charge, to children in the Greater Newark area. GNTE operates at the Althea Gibson Tennis Center in Newark’s Branch Brook Park through a partnership with Essex County.
